THE WORLD BY THUMB

100% hitchhiking - 100% world tour - Since 2013 - By Florence Renault

NEW ZEALAND: SOUTH ISLAND

May to November 2016

After hitchhiking a containership across the Pacific Ocean , I arrived on the North Island of New Zealand. By hitchhiking an Intersilander, I reached the South Island quickly. I hiked on dozens of tracks, slept a trails sleeping in huts or in my tent and wrote in French for Expedia my selection of the 5 most beautiful hikes. I visited 5 stunning beaches and visited the must-see places for the fans of the Lord of the Rings movie . While filming promotional videos for Kiwirail, I crossed the South Island by train (round trip) and cruised in the Doubtful Sound fjords for Real Journeys . Then I worked three months on a dairy farm, isolated between the mountains. In November, my hitchhiking world tour continued in the North Island, where I looked for a sailboat for Australia . Thanks to a tourist visa and  a working holliday visa (WHV), I spent a total of eight months in New Zealand.
