THE WORLD BY THUMB
100% hitchhiking - 100% world tour - Since 2013 - By Florence Renault
SUDAN
From June, the 17th to the 25th 2019
By hitchhiking a ferry down the Nile river from Egypt, I arrive in Sudan. The country is going through a big political crisis, the streets are controlled by guerrillas and a hundred demonstrators were killed two weeks before. But my couchsurfing contacts living in Sudan have warned me that the situation is temporarily quiet. So I quickly cross the Sahara desert by hitchhiking with Mai, a Vietnamese traveller I met on the boat. We are staying with Amin in Dongola, visit the pyramids of Jebel Barkal and Meroé then arrive in the capital Khartoum. Sara welcomes me to her home and invites me to her friend's catastrophic and funny wedding. My hitchhiking world tour continues south. On the way, I see my first African huts, then I arrive under a shelter which apperas to be the custom of Ethiopia .
